This review will cover the Dirt Devil Featherlite Cyclonic Bagless Canister Vacuum. It’s a low priced, accessible model brought to us by the Dirt Devil company. Staying true to their reputation, the Dirt Devil engineers have yet again developed a very reliable and respectably powerful model capable of dealing with any standard canister vacuum task.
The Dirt Devil Featherlite Cyclonic Bagless Canister Vacuum is a very lightweight, respectably powerful mode bringing you cyclonic performance at a reasonable price. The single stage cyclonic filtration allows the model to filter and separate dirt and dust easily. The Featherlite, just like its name suggests is a very lightweight, mobile product that can be carried around without too much of an issue, while remaining relevant in terms of suction power. Its 10 AMP motor is powerful enough to tackle any standard canister vacuum cleaner task and can easily stand up to the other products in the price range. The Dirt Devil Featherlite also features a HEPA filtering system which makes it great for people that have had health problems or allergies, as it takes care of almost all dust and allergenic particles in the air.
Like we’ve already mentioned, the main strength of canister vacs is their multi functionality. Even the best canister vacuum cleaner models aren’t all that great if you take away their attachments. This being said, the Dirt Devil Featherlite has just enough attachments to be able to properly do its job, but not too many, so you won’t ever end up feeling overwhelmed by them. In the box you have the rather standard for a canister vacuum two in one Dusting Brush, a Crevice tool and an Upholstery tool.
Now it’s time to have another look at the major upsides of the Dirt Devil Featherlite. The suction power of the model is superb, especially when we factor in the price tag for which you get it. There are very few models capable of standing up to it in its own price category. Then comes the light weight. The model only weighs ten pounds, which makes moving and carrying it around a very easy task. It was the combination of those qualities that convinced us to feature the Dirt Devil Featherlite in our best canister vacuum review series.
Powerful Suction – The most important vacuum cleaner trait is the suction power. And don’t let the low price tag fool you – this model is packing quite the punch. It’s a Dirt Devil model, after all. The company is well known for their ability to create low priced, yet very effective products.
Affordable – The Dirt Devil Featherlite brings it’s amazing suction power at a surprisingly low price tag. It is one of the most popular cheap canister vacuum cleaning solutions on the market and it will not disappoint you. There are very few other models that can compete with it in both price tag and suction power, and none of them would win outright.
Lightweight – The model name makes this one rather obvious. This vacuum is created with mobility in mind, and moving it as well as carrying it around should not be a problem.
The biggest downfall of the Dirt Devil Featherlite is its inability to deal with pet hair. Just like we’ve mentioned earlier, the power of canister vacuum cleaner models is in the attachments, and when lacking a pet hair attachment, even the best canister vacuum cleaner models won’t be of much use in such a situation. This generally means that the vacuum is not a good choice for pet owners, as it will have major troubles dealing with their homes. The other, less severe downsides revolve around its rather short hose, and the impractical for storage design.
Not Great For Pet Hair – Sadly, the model lacks the ability to deal properly with pet hair and it’s not recommend to try and force it, as that can easily lead to clogging. User experience usually varies depending on the types of pet hair, but it’s generally not advisable to push it.
Short Hose – While the model is very mobile and easy to navigate, the hose itself is rather short and if you decide to vacuum a bigger staircase, you will have to carry the model up and down a lot.
The Dirt Devil Featherlite Cyclonic Bagless Canister Vacuum gets a 8.9 out of 10. The main reason for the lower score is the fact that the initial attachments that the model comes with don’t feature anything for pet hair, making it a bad choice for pet owners in general. The other downsides can easily be overlooked, as they are not all that major. The hose is rather short, which shortens the cleaning range a bit, but it is easily countered by the low weight of the model for example.
All in all the Dirt Devil Featherlite is one of the best canister vacuum cleaner choices that you can make if you are looking for an affordable, yet solid and reliable lightweight model. It can take over pretty much all of the standard vacuum cleaning duties for a home with its default attachments and it won’t leave you disappointed.
